Retraining the Nervous System Through Integrated Digital Therapeutics
Georgia Mitsi, CEO of MiraWell, on Retraining the Nervous System Through Integrated Digital Therapeutics
Georgia Mitsi, CEO of MiraWell, discusses how immersive technologies and real-time physiological data are redefining care for pain and stress-mediated conditions.

As part of Boomerang Ventures’ ongoing series highlighting leaders across its portfolio—introduced in “10 Leaders Shaping the Future of Connected Health Technology”— we are spotlighting the innovators shaping the future of connected health.

In this Q&A, Georgia Mitsi, CEO of MiraWell, shares how her global experience across digital health, product development, and clinical validation is shaping a new approach to treating pain and stress-mediated conditions. With a track record of leading cross-functional teams from concept through commercialization, Georgia is focused on integrating emerging technologies into a single, clinically grounded platform that delivers measurable outcomes.

Origin & Strategic Insight

What inspired the creation of your company, and what unmet need did you initially see?

MiraWell was built by pediatricians for the pediatric population to address a fundamental gap in how we can address pain and stress-mediated conditions with alternative approaches. While biofeedback, digital therapeutics, and immersive technologies each show promise, they’ve remained fragmented.

We saw an opportunity to integrate them into a single, clinically grounded platform that uses real-time physiological data to actively retrain the nervous system.

When did you realize this required a fundamentally different solution?

It became clear that incremental innovation—another drug or standalone app—was not improving outcomes. These conditions are rooted in dysregulation of the nervous system, which requires continuous, adaptive intervention—not passive treatment.

What differentiates your approach?

MiraWell is a closed-loop system that combines real-time biofeedback with immersive therapy.

Our differentiation is:

  • Adaptive, physiology-driven interventions
  • High patient engagement through eXtended Reality (XR) / Virtual Reality (VR)
  • A clear path toward clinical validation and medical-grade outcomes

We don’t just inform patients—we help retrain their physiological responses.

The Problem & Its Broader Impact

What is fundamentally broken in your segment of healthcare?

We treat symptoms instead of underlying systems. And we always rely on medication. Having proven alternative techniques that can be leveraged effectively due to technological advancements offers an opportunity if they become part of everyday healthcare, rather than just tools used episodically.

Why has this persisted?

Because it spans multiple disciplines that have historically operated in silos, and reimbursement models have favored drugs and procedures over behavioral care.

If your solution scales, what changes?

Patients gain control over their physiology, providers extend care beyond the clinic, and payors benefit from lower total cost of care through prevention and improved adherence.

Building in Connected Health

What has been the most challenging aspect of building and scaling in this environment?

Balancing speed with clinical and regulatory rigor. In healthcare, credibility is as critical as innovation.

What milestones validated your readiness to scale?

Securing core technology and IP, early validation of our approach, and Letters of Intent from top pediatric hospitals that are waiting for deployment of our solution.

How has Boomerang Ventures influenced your trajectory?

Boomerang has provided both capital and operational discipline—helping us focus on the highest-value milestones and accelerate execution.

Leadership & Perspective

How do you view your role as a woman leading in health tech?

As both responsibility and opportunity. Diverse leadership leads to more patient-centered innovation—especially in areas like behavioral health.

Have challenges shaped your leadership?

Yes. Startups are hard. Cultivating a positive attitude and calmness helps with the decision-making process. Navigating bias and access to capital has reinforced a focus on execution, clarity, and results.

What principle guides you in uncertainty?

Clarity over comfort. Decisive action with imperfect information is better than inaction.

The Future of Connected Health Technology

Biggest opportunity in the next five years?

The convergence of continuous monitoring, AI-driven personalization, and behavioral interventions—shifting care from reactive to proactive.

How will this redefine patient experience?

Care will become continuous and embedded in daily life, rather than episodic and clinic-based.

What does long-term success look like?

Becoming a standard of care for managing pain and anxiety—and reducing reliance on medication by giving patients control over their physiology.
